Kamadhoo Council to Develop Water Sports Park

MV+ News Desk | September 30, 2024

The Kamadhoo Council in Baa Atoll has announced plans to develop a water sports park on the island. This initiative aims to address the residents’ need for a dedicated beach area, as the existing beach is primarily utilised by tourists.

To facilitate the development, the council is seeking parties to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the water park. The new facility will provide locals with a designated space for picnics and water sports, allowing them to enjoy swimming without disrupting tourist activities.

A contractor has already been appointed to procure the necessary equipment, which is expected to arrive within 40 days. The water park, which will include a beach, has been prioritised in the island’s development plan and is allocated a budget of MVR 800,000 from the council’s funds.

The project will be constructed on land designated for Dhiraagu, and once completed, it will serve the island’s population of approximately 500 residents. Kamadhoo is particularly popular during the Eid holidays, drawing many visitors for traditional displays and dances, making the development of the water sports park a timely addition for both residents and tourists.
