In an unexpected turn of events, former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen reversed his stance to advocate to boycott the election and announced his endorsement of candidate Muizzu.

Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, Yameen’s senior legal advisor, and former Vice President, delivered the news.
In a tweet, Jameel expressed his support for Muizzu and his running mate Hussain Mohamed Latheef. This move follows Yameen’s earlier selection of Jameel as his running mate when he initially decided to participate in the presidential race.
The formal submission of nomination papers saw Muizzu accompanied by PNC leader Abdul Raheem and running mate Hussain Mohamed Latheef.
Yameen had yesterday urged the public to boycott the election if his rights were compromised. This led to a schism within the PPM/PNC alliance, with a significant portion of the joint Senate, comprising 67 out of 126 members, voting against an election boycott.
