Maafaru International Airport has officially resumed international operations after undergoing substantial runway expansion work.

The airport recently closed to facilitate these significant upgrades, which included a 650-metre extension of the runway. Efforts to expand the apron are ongoing.

These enhancements aim to accommodate larger aircraft and boost the airport’s capacity, catering to an increasing demand for international travel to the Maldives.

Located in Noonu Atoll, Maafaru International Airport originally opened on 1 December 2019. The project was funded by a $60 million grant from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
