The Director of Media and Communications at the People’s Majlis Secretariat, Hassan Ziyau,  has been dismissed in a move the individual claims violates the Parliamentary Service Regulation. The former director asserts that their role was non-political and that the termination contravenes established rules.

In a statement, the former director accused the Secretariat of acting hastily and making fabricated accusations to justify the immediate dismissal. They described these allegations as baseless and lacking any substantive evidence.

The individual further alleged that their dismissal was linked to their opposition to several decisions made by senior officials, including Secretary General Fathimath Niusha, Deputy Secretary General Mohamed Rasheed, Head of Administration Ahmed Faiz, and Director of Foreign Relations Zuyyina Badhree. They suggested these decisions foster corruption and favouritism within the Secretariat, concerns they claim to have consistently raised. Additionally, they stated that their refusal to sign backdated documents contributed to what they describe as a retaliatory dismissal.

In response to their dismissal, the former director has called for a thorough investigation by relevant authorities into the actions of senior officials. They plan to escalate the matter by submitting complaints to the Employment Tribunal, the Human Rights Commission, and the General Purpose Committee of Parliament, which oversees the Secretariat’s functions.

This case underscores broader concerns about governance and accountability within the People’s Majlis Secretariat.
