The Maldives and Saudi Arabia have signed a new agreement aimed at enhancing and supporting the sports industries.

The agreement was formalised in a ceremony in Riyadh, attended by Abdulla Rafiu, the Maldives Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, and Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal, the Saudi Arabian Minister of Sport.

The agreement outlines plans for training sports associations and institutions from both nations, fostering closer ties through reciprocal visits by sports teams, and promoting direct communication between clubs. Key areas of focus will include sports medicine and anti-doping education, as well as the organisation of competitions and sports events.

In addition to these initiatives, the Maldives and Saudi Arabia will collaborate on investments in the sports industry and exchange documentation, training equipment, and expertise related to sports.

This agreement builds on Saudi Arabia’s previous support for the Maldives’ sports development, which has included facilitating training camps for national teams and clubs in Saudi Arabia.
