The Maldives and Saudi Arabia have announced plans to co-host an anti-corruption forum aimed at promoting greater transparency and addressing corruption within the tourism sector.

The event, titled the “Saudi-Maldives International Forum on Integrity,” will be jointly organised by the Maldives’ Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Saudi Arabia’s Oversight and Anti-Corruption Committee. It is scheduled to take place on May 6-7, 2025, with the participation of 50 countries.

Fathimat Ibna, Director of Prevention at the ACC, discussed the forum on PSM’s “Raajje Miadhu” programme, outlining that the forum will feature a series of sessions. The opening session will see leaders from the participating nations discussing the challenges in tackling corruption.

Ibna highlighted that the forum will strengthen the Maldives’ anti-corruption initiatives, noting that corruption is closely linked to the nation’s economy. She also emphasised that the forum will foster both formal and informal dialogues among delegates to work towards eliminating corruption.

Additionally, the forum is expected to enhance the Maldives’ relations with member states of the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The ACC director also acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s significant role in supporting the forum’s organisation, including discussions between the ACC and Saudi Arabia’s Anti-Corruption Agency during Ramadan.

To ensure broader access, the ACC has confirmed that efforts are underway to livestream the forum on platforms such as Facebook and X. A dedicated website for the forum has already been set up to provide further information and facilitate public engagement.
