Maldives Defence Officials Visit India to Enhance Defence Ties

Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Chief of Defence Force of the Maldives, and other senior officials from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) are currently in India to strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries.

The delegation arrived in India to participate in the fifth Defence Cooperation Dialogue, held in New Delhi on Friday. The Maldivian team, led by Major General Hilmy, engaged with an Indian delegation headed by Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane.

The Indian Defence Ministry reported that the discussions allowed both parties to address various aspects of bilateral defence cooperation, including the acceleration of ongoing defence projects. They also explored topics such as high-level exchanges, capability development projects, and the participation in upcoming bilateral military exercises.

“The discussions were productive and are expected to advance the mutual interests of both nations, contributing to stability and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region,” stated the ministry.

During the visit, Major General Hilmy met with Indian Defence Chief, General Anil Chauhan, where the focus was on enhancing defence cooperation, regional security, and bilateral training opportunities. He also had discussions with Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, concentrating on improving training, information sharing, and maritime security.

Additionally, Hilmy visited the National War Memorial during his stay in India.
