The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a White Alert from Kaafu Atoll to Addu City, effective until 17:15 hrs today.

The alert, which is in force from 13:15 hrs to 17:15 hrs, warns of potential swell wave surges in the region.

According to the MET Office, swell waves could reach 2.8 feet at high tide in Central Maldives and up to 3.2 feet in the Southern Atolls. The warning highlights that these conditions are expected when tides are at their peak.

Recent observations indicate that areas such as Male’s Raalhugan’du in Henveiru and the southern regions have already experienced swell waves, including over the past weekend.

This period of the year typically sees an increase in swell wave activity in the Maldives. Historical data shows that such swell waves have previously caused significant damage across various islands.
