The event brought together a range of participants, including the Chairperson of the Maldives–Türkiye Interparliamentary Friendship Group Dr Ümmügülşhen Öztürk, senior Turkish foreign ministry officials, members of the business community, Turkish media, embassy staff, and members of the Maldivian community residing in Ankara.

The Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the establishment of the embassy as a historic milestone in diplomatic relations. The resident diplomatic mission is expected to support the Maldives’ foreign policy priorities and provide consular services to the growing number of Maldivians living in Türkiye.

The Embassy is also set to serve as a platform for enhancing cooperation between the two nations in a range of areas, both on a bilateral and multilateral level.

During the inauguration, Minister Khaleel highlighted the Embassy’s role in deepening diplomatic ties, promoting economic collaboration, and encouraging cultural and people-to-people connections.

Minister Ersoy also spoke at the ceremony, noting the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and Türkiye, which he said has expanded over the years across various sectors, including tourism, culture, economy, and education.
