Maldives Spent Over MVR 62 Million on Global Tourism Marketing in 2024

The government of Maldives has spent more than MVR 62 million on international tourism and destination marketing events this year.

According to data shared by the state-owned Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MPPRC) to The Mirror, Maldives has participated in 15 marketing events since last November, with 13 taking place in 2024 alone.

The largest expenditure was directed towards the Arabian Travel Market 2024, held in Dubai in May, where MVR 17.4 million was spent. This was closely followed by ITB Berlin 2024 in March, with an expenditure exceeding MVR 16.3 million. Together, these two events accounted for a combined total of MVR 33 million.

Additionally, MVR 11 million was allocated to the ITB China 2024, which aimed to boost Maldives’ presence in the Chinese market. Two events held in February, focusing on promoting the Maldives to the Indian market, accounted for a further MVR 6 million.
