Maldives to Experience Heavy Rainfall Over the Next Few Days

The Maldives is expected to receive a month’s worth of rain within the next three days.

Al Jazeera’s forecast predicts heavy rainfall across the northern regions and the capital, Malé, with the possibility of a month’s worth of rain falling within the next 72 hours.

The National Meteorological Service (MET) has also issued warnings about severe weather conditions affecting the region this week. The MET office has corroborated this, forecasting significant rainfall over the next five days.

However, MET revealed that no unusual weather patterns have been observed compared to those predicted by Al Jazeera. 

The representative explained that rainfall in the Maldives can vary significantly throughout the year. For instance, in the west, rainfall can reach 500-600 mm in May, while in the drier months, such as January or February, it may be around 100 mm.

The official noted that some areas have already experienced 60 mm of rain today, which is within normal parameters. Despite improvements in the weather, further heavy rainfall is expected over the next three days. 

In response to the anticipated severe weather, the MET office has issued a yellow alert for all regions, except for the two southern atolls.
