Man Arrested After Attempted Attack on Imam

A man has been arrested following an attempted knife attack on an Imam during Maghrib prayers in Hulhumale’ yesterday. 

A police official confirmed that a 33-year-old Maldivian man was taken into custody after attempting to assault the Imam with a sharp object at a mosque in Hulhumale’ Phase 1.

The suspect reportedly also tried to attack a police officer who intervened to stop the assault and has also been charged with attempting assault with a sharp object on a police officer. 

Authorities are still investigating.
