Renowned architect Mauroof Jameel has been appointed as the new Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), following the resignation of Fazul Rasheed amidst allegations of corruption and misconduct.

Fazul Rasheed announced his resignation yesterday evening, stating that his decision was aimed at allowing ongoing investigations to proceed without interference and ensuring continuity in the government’s housing policies. Despite stepping down, Fazul maintains his innocence and has denied any wrongdoing.

The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) confirmed Mauroof Jameel’s appointment in a social media post earlier today.

Mauroof Jameel brings a wealth of experience in housing and infrastructure to HDC. Before the formation of the corporation, he served as Director General of the Hulhumalé Development Unit. His extensive career includes senior roles within HDC itself, as well as at the Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC). Additionally, he has served as the Minister of Construction and Public Infrastructure, overseeing major initiatives in the sector.

Beyond his administrative expertise, Mauroof is widely recognised as an architect, independent researcher, and illustrator specialising in the architectural heritage of the Maldives. His research focuses on coral stone mosques, traditional houses, and resort architecture in the Maldives.
