Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, has revealed that the inauguration ceremony for Male’ Mayor-elect, Adam Azim, and the councilors elected to fill the vacant seats in the Male’ City Council will take place on Monday night.

The Minister revealed that official preparations for the inauguration will commence promptly upon receiving the necessary documents from the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM). The Male’ City Council, guided by the Local Government Authority (LGA), will oversee the logistical and administrative aspects of the event.

Describing the forthcoming ceremony as a significant occasion, Minister Adam Shareef expressed optimism for effective collaboration between the government and the newly elected mayor to accomplish substantial work.

The election for Male’ City’s new mayor and representatives for three additional council seats—South Maafannu, Central Henveiru, and South Henveiru—took place on Saturday. The vacancy for the Male’ mayor position arose following the resignation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who stepped down to assume the presidency on November 17th.

The remaining seats became available as councilors resigned to take up roles in the new administration. Adam Azim, the candidate from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), secured a landslide victory for the mayoral position.

Additionally, the Progressive Party of Maldives (PNC) secured two of the three other vacant seats, with the remaining seat going to MDP.
