MDFA Issues Alert on Contaminated Liquid Medicines

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has issued an alert regarding certain liquid medications produced by Pharmix Laboratories (Pvt), a pharmaceutical company based in Lahore, Pakistan.

The alert specifies the presence of chemicals, including diethylene glycol (DEG) and ethylene glycol (EG), in some of the company’s liquid medicines. Similar warnings have been reported globally, indicating the inclusion of EG/DEG in Pharmix Laboratories’ liquid medications.
Two specific medicines from this company present in the Maldivian market, have been identified to contain these chemicals, leading to an immediate halt in their production. Consequently, effective immediately, the import, sale, and use of any liquid medicine from Pharmix Laboratories are prohibited in the Maldives as a precautionary measure.
Furthermore, liquid medicines previously approved from this company are to be promptly removed and destroyed according to the provided guidelines.
