Medical Emergency Leads to Accident at VIA

A taxi veered out of control near the taxi queue at Velana International Airport (VIA) yesterday, colliding with a pickup truck, according to a statement from the airport. The incident occurred at 10 am and is believed to have been caused by a medical emergency suffered by the 67-year-old taxi driver.
The driver was promptly taken to hospital, where he underwent a CT scan and X-ray. A hospital spokesperson informed Mihaaru News that further updates on his condition would follow after the medical reports were assessed.

Police confirmed their officers responded to the scene of the collision. The taxi driver sustained injuries and was hospitalised, while a passenger in the vehicle received treatment for minor injuries at the airport clinic.
Photos shared on social media depict the taxi having struck the rear of a large pickup truck near the airport’s taxi queue. The front of the taxi was extensively damaged, becoming wedged beneath the truck due to the impact.
Authorities stated that police investigations are ongoing, with officers remaining at the scene to gather evidence.
