The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has confirmed that none of the Indian medicines flagged for quality concerns have been imported into the country.

In a statement, the MFDA disclosed that it had been alerted to quality issues with 48 products manufactured by Indian pharmaceutical companies. Following this notification, the authority conducted a comprehensive market assessment to determine whether any of these products had entered the Maldivian market.

The MFDA clarified that while one of the listed medicines is licensed for import, no batches of this product have been brought into the country since 2018. Moreover, the authority affirmed that none of the other medicines identified with quality concerns have been imported into the Maldives under any circumstances.

As a precautionary measure, the MFDA has advised the public to remain vigilant when purchasing medicines, particularly since many Maldivians travel to India for medical treatment and may return with medications for personal use. The authority has also strengthened inspections at import points to ensure that no problematic products enter the local market.

The MFDA’s actions are part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and maintain the quality of pharmaceuticals available in the country.
