Minister Explores Agricultural Initiatives at Hdh. Hanimaadhoo Centre
Dr. Maryam Mariya, currently overseeing the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, visited the Hdh. Hanimaadhoo Agriculture Centre to assess ongoing initiatives including the Maldives Coconut Tree Pest Control Assistance Project.
During her visit, Dr Mariya met with the centre’s employees to discuss projects and address current challenges faced in their operations. She also engaged with the technical team from the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS), leading the Coconut Tree Pest Control Assistance Project in the Maldives. The CATAS team provided an overview of their planned activities and shared pest samples collected during their work with Dr. Mariya to provide a better understanding of the ongoing initiative.
According to the government news website Sarukaaru, her visit demonstrated the administration’s commitment to understanding and aiding the development of the agricultural sector in the Maldives.
