Minister Saeed Meets with Chinese Minister of Commerce to Strengthen Trade Relations
Minister for Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, met with Chinese Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, today during his official visit to attend the World Economic Forum. The discussions focused on enhancing trade relations between the two countries.
In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Minister Saeed described the meeting as constructive. He mentioned that the ministers reflected on the recent meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, which set the stage for their discussions.

Minister Saeed highlighted that the talks also centred on exploring options to deepen trade and investment cooperation. This follows a series of engagements aimed at strengthening the economic ties between China and the Maldives.

Wang Lixin, the Ambassador of China to the Maldives, shared Minister Saeed’s post on X, expressing her optimism about the meeting’s outcomes. She believes the discussions will facilitate the implementation of the important agreements reached between President Xi Jinping and President Dr Muizzu.
“Looking forward to more achievements of the China-Maldives strategic cooperative partnership,” the Ambassador wrote.
