He made this appeal during a tree-planting event organised by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Clean Maldives under the “Go Green” initiative.

The event, held in Hulhumale, is part of a broader effort by HDC and Clean Maldives to plant 1,000 trees in support of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s “Plant 5 Million Trees” campaign. Over 350 people attended, including school children, ministry officials, representatives from various organisations, and event sponsors.

In his speech, Thoriq emphasised the importance of shaded trees in the Maldives, particularly given the country’s hot climate. He encouraged the public to view tree planting as a civic responsibility and for everyone to plant a tree in the name in the name of their mother and father.

Planting five million trees is a campaign pledge by President Muizzu.
