The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources (MFOR) has recently completed the second batch of its basic mariculture training course in the Maldives, focusing on promoting mariculture as a sustainable income source.
The course in K. Maniyafushi emphasised key aspects of co-aquaculture, a practice that integrates multiple species into a single ecosystem for cultivation.
Participants received in-depth training on co-aquaculture systems, learning how these systems operate and how to grow and maintain various types of aquatic livestock.
The course also provided an introduction to the breeding and cultivation stages of different fish species, equipping attendees with practical skills aimed at supporting local livelihoods while contributing to the development of the national mariculture industry.
