The Ministry of Social and Family Development has reappointed gender equality model advocates and commenced new training programmes.

This initiative follows the adoption of the National Gender Equality Policy in 2019 and the launch of the National Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP) in March 2022, both of which have established a framework to ensure gender equality and address gender discrimination.

These steps have bolstered the efforts of state institutions, private sector associations, and gender equality advocates. However, to achieve true gender equality, it is crucial that all government institutions align their policies and activities with international treaties and national legal frameworks, and cultivate knowledgeable personnel to implement these measures.

By 2023, two individuals have been appointed as Gender Equality Model Advocates (MJM Advocates). The role of these advocates is to promote the implementation of equality principles as a shared responsibility, rather than a task confined to a few individuals or a single institution.

The Ministry of Social and Family Development has decided to appoint gender equality advocates across all state institutions to strengthen their capacity to identify and address the unique needs of women, men, girls, and boys. This initiative includes the reappointment and training of MJM advocates and extends to all independent institutions.

The primary objective is to recognise gender differences and needs and to develop laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and programmes (gender mainstreaming) that ensure equal opportunities at the institutional level in accordance with the GEAP policy goals.

The Ministry of Social and Family Development hopes that gender mainstreaming efforts will be expedited and thoroughly implemented across all sectors. Policies and activities should cater to the individual needs of all members of society, including women, men, girls, and boys, and promote equality.
