Ministry to Accept Fitr Zakat in Staple Foods from Saturday

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced that Fitr Zakat paid in staple foods will be accepted in the Malé area from Saturday, 22 March.
According to the ministry, similar to the previous year, individuals can fulfil their Fitr Zakat obligations by contributing staple foods instead of monetary payments. The collection will take place at the Salahudheen Hall in Majeedhiya School from Saturday, 22 March, until Thursday, 27 March. Those visiting the premises are advised to use the entrance on Ameer Ahmed Magu.
The ministry will accept staple food contributions between 1pm and 4pm each day during this period. To meet the requirements, Zakat must be given in the form of 2.4 kilogrammes of the staple food regularly consumed by the payer.
The types of grains accepted as Fitr Zakat include normal rice, Thailand rice, Basmati rice, red rice, and wheat flour.
