The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has launched its Income Tax Assistance Programme, aimed at helping individuals and businesses prepare and submit their income tax returns for the year 2024.

The programme commenced yesterday and will continue until 15 June 2025.

According to MIRA, the initiative is targeted at taxpayers with a total income of less than MVR 10 million who are required to submit a tax return. The authority noted that the programme is particularly suited to those who prepare their financials on a cash basis and require assistance in completing their tax obligations.

Support will be provided remotely through telephone, email, and other online communication channels. Taxpayers who meet the eligibility criteria can reach out to MIRA via its Viber number 9821415. Registration for the programme is open through multiple channels, including email at engagement@mira.gov.mv, MIRA’s hotline 1415, or the live chat feature available on its official website.

To facilitate the process, MIRA has also created a dedicated online link that allows taxpayers to check their eligibility to file an income tax return for the previous year.

Under the Income Tax Act, income tax rates are structured as follows:

  • Income not exceeding MVR 720,000 is not taxed (0%)
  • Income more than MVR 720,000 but not exceeding MVR 1,200,000 is taxed at 5.5%
  • Income more than MVR 1,200,000 but not exceeding MVR 1,800,000 is taxed at 8%
  • Income more than MVR 1,800,000 but not exceeding MVR 2,400,000 is taxed at 12%
  • Income more than MVR 2,400,000 is taxed at 15%

MIRA’s new assistance programme is intended to improve compliance and support accurate tax filing among smaller income earners and businesses.
