MMWM Launches Maldives’ First Impact Auction to Support Migrant Workers

The Mission for Migrant Workers Maldives (MMWM) has launched the MMWM Impact Auction, the first initiative of its kind in the Maldives, transforming skills, services, and exclusive experiences into life-changing support for migrant workers.
In response to decreasing funding for migrant support initiatives, MMWM is exploring innovative and sustainable ways to contribute. This auction offers a unique opportunity for individuals and businesses to fund Iftar meals and essential aid without requiring direct financial donations.

“Year on year, we have been growing in the number of meals contributed. But this year, we have seen a decline,” said Dr. Minah Faiz Rashad, President of MMWM. “Traditional fundraising methods are becoming increasingly difficult, and we needed a creative solution that allows people to give in new ways. This initiative enables individuals and businesses to support our cause in a meaningful way by offering something they already have. It can be a skills, services, or exclusive experiences without any financial burden.”
How It Works
- Community members can auction skills like photography, yoga sessions, coaching, tutoring, or creative services.
- Corporate donors can offer exclusive experiences such as hotel stays, fine dining, leadership training, or discounted items.
- Once the team reviews all the entries, an online auction will be held. The highest bid on each offering funds meals and support for migrant workers.
- 100% of the proceeds will go towards MMWM’s ‘Share a Meal, Help a Life’ campaign, which provides Iftar meals and essential aid to migrant workers in need.
What a Contribution Can Provide (The value is calculated at MVR 50 = 1 Iftar Meal Sponsored):
- A photography session = 15 meals
- A yoga class = 20 meals
- A private cooking lesson = 30 meals
- A luxury hotel stay & dining experience = 70 meals
- A business strategy consultation = 40 meals
