MNDF Officer Arrested with Narcotics Released on Conditional Bail
A Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) officer, aged 21, has been released on conditional bail after being arrested for possessing narcotics.
The individual, employed with the MNDF Coastguard, was apprehended in Malé City in the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to the Criminal Court ruling, police officers detained the officer around 02:45 a.m. during a routine patrol. The suspect exhibited erratic behaviour and attempted to flee when approached by the authorities.
Upon searching the individual, police officers discovered rubber packets containing substances believed to be narcotics in the front and side pockets of the officer’s shorts. Further testing revealed traces of narcotics in the officer’s urine.
The police report presented to the court confirmed that the individual had no prior criminal history or arrests. The investigating officer also verified that the suspect, while employed by the MNDF, had no known involvement in criminal activities.
Additionally, the officer stated that the quantity of drugs found did not meet the threshold for trafficking charges, and no further questioning was conducted on this matter.
Although the officer was granted conditional bail, the specific conditions of release have not been disclosed.
