MNP Joins PPM-PNC Coalition for Presidential Election

The Maldivian National Party (MNP) formally entered into a coalition agreement, yesterday, with the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the People’s National Congress (PNC) ahead of the upcoming second round of the presidential election.

The agreement was signed by Abdul Raheem Abdulla, the president of PNC, representing the PNC, and Colonel Mohamed Nazim, president of the MNP, representing the MNP.
Nazim, who was the presidential candidate for the MNP, stated that the decision to support the PNC candidate, Muizzu, in the second round of the presidential election was made after a thorough evaluation of their chances.
During the elections, Nazim received 1,907 votes, equivalent to 0.86% of the total vote count. He acknowledged that the MNP recognised its limitations in securing victory and decided to support Muizzu due to the alignment of their respective party manifestos for this year’s presidential election.
Nazim emphasised that the coalition between the MNP and PPM-PNC was forged due to the shared policies of the two parties. Both parties have consistently prioritised the nation’s interests.
Nazim emphasised that they had identified noteworthy similarities in their respective party manifestos for this year’s presidential election, which strengthened their conviction that they were collectively striving towards a shared goal of improving the Maldives.
