MP Abdul Ghafoor is Still a Party Member, MDP Confirms

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has officially confirmed the continued membership of Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa in response to a social media post by former MDP Vice President and current member of The Democrats (TD) Mohamed Shifaz on platform X.

In the said post, Shifaz shared a photograph that allegedly shows MP Ghafoor signing a membership form to join the opposing People’s National Congress (PNC). 

Shifaz also raised questions about how many current MDP MPs would maintain their affiliation with the party once President-Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu takes office.

The photograph, posted by Shifaz, displayed Abdul Ghafoor signing the PNC membership form in the presence of fellow MP Mohamed ‘Mostar’ Nasheed from the Nolhivaram constituency.

In Refute of this this claim by Shifaz, MDP Deputy Chairman Ibrahim (Ibreys) Waheed retweeted on X asking whether the witnesses section is where they sign to change the party membership.
