Ahmed Haitham, Member of Parliament (MP) representing South Mahchangolhi, has called for a restriction on Israeli tourists visiting Maldives, in a letter addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed.
In his correspondence, Haitham condemned the actions of Israeli forces, referring to them as violations of human rights and human dignity. He pointed to the consequences of Israeli attacks, including the loss of life among Palestinian children and civilians, leaving many as disabled refugees.
Haitham also highlighted the challenging situation in the past ten days, during which more than 2 million Palestinians have endured severe hardships, including limited access to services like water and electricity, and being effectively confined within Palestine.
Furthermore, Haitham voiced his apprehension about Israeli tourists visiting Maldives, a nation with a predominantly Muslim population. He stressed the need to address the issue promptly, suggesting that Israeli passports and Israeli tourists be restricted from entering Maldives.
Haitham’s letter called upon the authorities to consider this proposal and requested the Foreign Affairs Committee to investigate the matter.
