MP Jabir Resolves Legal Dispute with Full Loan Repayment

The civil suit initiated by former Male’ Mayor Sarangu Adam Manik against Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir for the failure to repay a USD 1 million (MVR 15 million) loan has been officially withdrawn.
The resolution came after Jabir successfully settled the outstanding payment in full.

The legal action was set in motion by Adam Manik in October of this year, citing noncompliance on Jabir’s part regarding the agreed-upon loan repayment terms. The lawsuit targeted both Jabir and International Travel Consultant, a company in which Jabir holds a shareholder position.
Following Jabir’s complete repayment of the loan on December 21st, Adam Manik submitted a request to withdraw the civil suit. Consequently, the Civil Court officially closed the case, acknowledging the withdrawal by the claimant.
It’s worth noting that under Maldivian law, a parliamentarian facing proven debt issues and noncompliance with repayment may risk losing their seat.
