Maldives Port Limited (MPL) has announced that seven airlines are now participating in its Sea-to-Air Cargo Transshipment service, marking an expansion of this logistics initiative.

The Sea-to-Air service, developed in collaboration with Maldives State Shipping (MSS), Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), and international airlines, enables goods to be shipped to the Maldives by sea before being airfreighted to destinations worldwide. Introduced by MPL in March, the service completed its first shipment in May, involving a consignment of garments from Bangladesh that reached Germany via Turkish Airlines.

This hybrid transport solution offers a faster alternative for moving goods from exporting countries to select global markets. For the Maldives, which benefits from extensive air connectivity—particularly to European nations—the model leverages the frequency of flights to enhance efficiency and speed in cargo deliveries.

According to MPL, the initiative has seen steady growth, with Qatar Airways, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Aeroflot, Gulf Air, Neos Airlines, and Etihad Airways now actively involved. The Sea-to-Air service provides a reliable and accelerated cargo option, responding to the logistical needs of regional industries and supporting faster, more dependable freight solutions.
