Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) handled over 1,000 tonnes of cargo in their sea-to-air cargo services last year.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation said yesterday that MPL’s sea-to-air cargo service, launched in March last year, handled 1,078 tonnes of cargo from May to December. This is equivalent to 258 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).
“This milestone reflects the significant impact of integrating sea and air transport to enhance efficiency and connectivity in global trade,” the ministry said in a post on X.
They also said they remain committed to advancing logistics, driving economic growth, and solidifying the Maldives’ position in international trade.
As of November last year, MPL’s sea-to-air cargo service generated USD 3 million. Some of their clients include notable airlines such as Lufthansa, British Airways, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, and Emirates.
