Muizzu Announces Masterplan for AI in Economic Development
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has revealed plans to develop a masterplan for the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance economic growth, following recommendations from his cabinet.
This decision was made during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. According to a statement from the President’s Office, the masterplan will focus on risk management related to AI utilisation and the establishment of a legal framework governing AI technology.
Once the masterplan is developed, relevant documentation will be presented to the cabinet by the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, alongside the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
In a separate event at the 79th United Nations General Assembly, President Muizzu emphasised the Maldives’ commitment to fostering a digital economy. He noted that efforts are currently underway to leverage AI as a means to boost productivity in various sectors.
