Muizzu Nominates Fuad as Maldives’ Ambassador to Thailand
The former chairman of the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM), Fuad Thaufeeq, has been nominated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as the country’s next ambassador to Thailand.
The nomination letter was presented to Parliament this morning and has been forwarded to the Foreign Relations Committee for review.
Fuad has an extensive background in public service. He joined the Maldives’ first-ever Elections Commission in 2008 following the adoption of the new Constitution. Over his tenure, he served two terms, from 2008 to 2014 and from 2019 to 2024, concluding his service on Saturday after reaching the constitutional limit of two five-year terms.
In addition to his work at the ECM, Fuad has held roles in the Foreign Ministry and served at the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Secretariat, further cementing his credentials in diplomatic and administrative affairs.
The Foreign Relations Committee will now assess the nomination before the matter proceeds further in Parliament.
