Muizzu Pledges to Start the Land Reclamation Project in Hulhudeli by July

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu pledged yesterday to start the land reclamation project in Dhaalu Atoll Hulhudeli by July of this year. 

Speaking to the residents of Hulhudeli on the final day of his three-day tour of the Dhaalu Atoll islands, Muizzu said that once the project starts, it will proceed at an accelerated pace until it is completed.  He said they aim to reclaim as much as possible from the island’s lagoon.

According to the President’s Office, he also pledged to begin constructing a new school building on the island in May to address students’ space constraints. Additionally, the President committed to establishing a fully equipped health centre in Hulhudheli, emphasising the need for improved infrastructure and technical expertise.

Addressing the needs of local fishermen, President Dr Muizzu announced that the construction of an ice plant would commence in the third quarter. He also revealed that Hulhudheli would be among the islands receiving fish aggregating devices (FADs) required for sports fishing.

During the ceremony, an agreement was signed for the development of a Waste Management Centre. President Dr Muizzu noted that this fulfilled a Presidential pledge, adding that the centre would be fully operational within four months.

Earlier, Muizzu met with the Hulhudheli Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and the heads of various institutions. The council highlighted the challenges faced by residents due to a lack of resources and stressed the need for a new waste management system and road construction initiatives.

Muizzu Concludes Dhaalu Atoll Tour

Yesterday, President Muizzu returned to Malé after concluding his tour of Dhaalu Atoll. Since departing for the atoll on Sunday, he visited Kudahuvadhoo, Maaen’boodhoo, Ban’didhoo, Meedhoo, Rin’budhoo, and Hulhudheli, meeting with Island Councils, Women’s Development Committees, institutional heads, and residents. Throughout these engagements, he reaffirmed his commitment to making key decisions and delivering essential services.

Addressing residents, the President reiterated that all stalled projects mentioned in his Presidential Address would resume in February and March.

He also announced key decisions regarding housing. Island councils have been instructed to review housing unit projects and allow individuals to build homes on their own land. Additionally, the final list of 4,000 flats in the Greater Malé area will be released soon.
