President Dr Mohamed Muizzu returned to the Maldives yesterday after concluding his trip to the United Kingdom to launch the tourism promotion campaign with Liverpool Football Club.

On April 1, Muizzu left for the UK to start the co-branded collaboration between the football club and the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC)/Visit Maldives. According to the President’s Office, this campaign goes beyond visibility, aiming to boost visitor arrivals, enhance global presence, and generate significant economic benefits for the Maldives.

This collaboration was first announced on March 13, when MMPRC/Visit Maldives said Liverpool FC would be the Maldives’ “Official Tourist Destination Partner.” This partnership launches a global campaign spanning three and a half years, designed to amplify brand awareness and inspire more travellers to visit the Maldives.

To celebrate the start of this campaign, Muizzu attended the Liverpool FC vs Everton, the Merseyside derby on Wednesday evening, marking the historic kick-off of the Maldives tourism promotion campaign, as well as visiting the AXA training centre and observed the footballing and coaching practices carried out.

He concluded this four-day trip and returned to the Maldives yesterday evening.

Muizzu Reinstated No.9 Rosement Avenue for the Maldivuan Students’ Association

During his trip, Muizzu reinstated No. 9 Rosemont Avenue, London, as the premises of the Maldivian Students’ Association-UK (MSA-UK) yesterday.

The property, which had historically housed Maldivian students and served as a hub to support Maldivian students in the UK, was repurposed for diplomatic use by the Maldivian High Commission in the UK in 2019. However, the property was reinstated yesterday as student accommodation and a hub registered under the MSA-UK. According to the President’s Office, this decision aims to enhance student welfare and community ties.

Pres’ Visit to the University of Leeds

President Muizzu also met with senior academic and managerial staff at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom yesterday.

During the meeting, he outlined the Government’s development priorities and expressed interest in establishing international partnerships in research and education, including with the University of Leeds. He said the Maldives could benefit from the university’s expertise in developing high-quality academic programmes.
