President Dr Mohamed Muizzu pledged yesterday to expand the Thakandhoo Harbour project this year and add Thakandhoo to the RTL route.

During his three-day tour of Haa Alifu Atoll, Muizzu pledged to the people of Thakandhoo that the government would complete the harbour expansion project concurrently with the erosion issue.

According to the President’s Office, Muizzu noted that Thakandhoo is an island with an ancient heritage, and those aspects must be preserved while furthering its development.

He also met yesterday with the Island Council, its Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and the island’s institution heads. They shared with Muizzu the need for government assistance in protecting historical sites, expediting basic services, including water and sewerage infrastructure, addressing urgent coastal erosion issues, and completing the harbour project to resolve transportation difficulties. The Council also requested the inclusion of an island within its jurisdiction to generate income and raised concerns about housing issues.
