President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu outlined his vision to see women elected to at least one-third of the seats in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

To achieve his vision of greater female representation in the Parliament, Muizzu emphasised the necessity for the PPM-PNC to secure a supermajority within the Parliament.

He also expressed his hope of seeing a Parliament that truly represents the people’s wishes.

Muizzu’s vision extends to increasing female participation in the political arena.

While it may not be mandated by law, he encourages more women to participate in the primaries and, ultimately, secure parliamentary seats.

Currently, out of the 87 MPs in the current parliamentary assembly, only four are women.

These include Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla, Addu Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam, Hinnavaru MP Jeehan Mahmood, and Thulhaadhoo MP Hisaan Hussain.
