New Senior Citizens Clinic Inaugurated at IGMH

A new clinic dedicated to senior citizens was officially inaugurated at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) yesterday, featuring an innovative at-home memo service.
During the inauguration ceremony held at Dharumavantha Hospital, IGMH’s CEO, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq, emphasised the clinic’s commitment to prioritising the health of senior citizens. He outlined the clinic’s mission to provide additional services, ensuring the overall well-being of this demographic.
Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq highlighted the significance of expanding senior citizen services nationwide, aligning with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment. He disclosed ongoing discussions within the Health Ministry to collaborate with educational institutions on raising awareness about geriatric care among the local population.
Recognising the importance of education in geriatric care, Razzaq stated that establishing a dedicated curriculum on the subject in the Maldives would contribute significantly to the overall strength of the healthcare system.
In efforts to enhance geriatric care, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq mentioned ongoing discussions with the Maldives National University (MNU) to formulate educational modules on the topic.
Further addressing the achievements of the current administration in the healthcare sector, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq applauded the commencement of the sea ambulance service between Vilimale’ and Male’ by Dharumavantha Hospital. He also acknowledged the initiative to develop a 100-bed tertiary hospital in Vilimale’ as a significant stride forward.
Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq concluded by noting the rapid progress of including medical check-ups for senior citizens under the Aasandha scheme, highlighting the administration’s commitment to advancing healthcare services for the elderly.
