NSPA Disburses Over MVR 55 Million to Support Low-Income Single Parents

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) of Maldives has disbursed over MVR 55.7 million this year to support low-income single parents, according to newly released data. As of October, a total of MVR 55,735,000 had been distributed through the agency’s financial assistance programme.

This initiative, established under Act No. 2014/2 (Social Security Act), aims to provide economic relief for single mothers and fathers facing financial hardships. It ensures that they have access to the resources needed to live on an equal footing with others in society.

Under the programme, each eligible child receives MVR 1,000 per month. Single parents can receive up to a maximum of MVR 10,000 per month, depending on their family circumstances.

As of October 2024, NSPA’s records indicate that 5,533 children and 3,235 single parents are registered for this support.

Eligible single parents can apply by filling out the registration form and submitting it to NSPA.
