Students from 260 schools are participating in the O-Level exams this year. This includes 23 schools in the greater Malé area and 237 schools located across the atolls.

The examination period began on Sunday with a paper in Islam. The start of exams comes shortly after the reopening of schools for the new academic year on 7 April, following a long holiday. Approximately 90,000 students returned to schools this term, including around 5,000 newly enrolled in Grade 1. Of these, 2,000 joined schools in the greater Malé region.

In addition, over 1,200 students transferred from schools in the atolls to those in the capital, while nearly 500 students changed schools within the atolls.
