Oil Spill at Rasfannu Beach: Public Advised to Avoid Swimming

An oil spill at Rasfannu Beach has prompted authorities to advise the public to avoid swimming and any water activities in the area.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) have confirmed that engine oil has been spotted along the shoreline, and officers are working with other concerned authorities to investigate and manage the situation. In a social media post, the police service urged the public to refrain from visiting the beach during this time due to the presence of black oil on the shore. The authorities are coordinating efforts to clean up the oil and mitigate any environmental impact.

“We are currently attending to an incident at Rasfannu Beach where engine oil has been spotted along the shoreline. Our officers, together with other concerned authorities, are investigating the situation and working to manage the affected area. In the meantime, we kindly advise the public to avoid swimming or engaging in any activities in the water at Rasfannu. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation,” the police said.
