Ooredoo Welcomes Football Legend Jay-Jay Okocha
Ooredoo Maldives has welcomed the football Legend Jay-Jay Okocha, former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star and Nigerian national team icon in an official visit to Maldives
Jay-Jay Okocha Arrived in the Maldives today, (3 July 2024) and was received by the MD and CEO of Ooredoo Maldives and senior management of the company. The legend was given a warm traditional welcome and escorted with boduberu.

Augustine Azuka “Jay-Jay” Okocha (born 14 August 1973) is a Nigerian former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He won 73 caps for the Nigeria national team between 1993 and 2006, scoring 14 goals, and was a member of three FIFA World Cup squads. He is regarded as one of the greatest football players from Africa.
In 1998, French side Paris Saint-Germain spent around £14 million to sign Okocha,[6] making him the most expensive African player at the time. In his four-year stint with PSG, he played 84 matches and scored 12 goals. He also served as a mentor for young Brazilian footballer and future Ballond’Or winner Ronaldinho during his time in Paris.
Jay-Jay Okocha, renowned for his mesmerizing skills, creativity, and exceptional playmaking ability, will be in the Maldives from the 3rd to 8th of July 2024. Throughout his visit, Okocha will participate in community initiatives and showcase the beauty of the Maldives to his extensive fanbase as well as PSG’s followers worldwide.
During this visit Ooredoo Maldives is excited to host several activities for their customers:
Meet and Greet: Ooredoo Maldives to host an exclusive Meet and Greet session with PSG Legend Jay Jay Okocha. During this session Jay-Jay Okocha will meet notable members of the Maldivian football community including current and former players and sports journalists.
Futsal Match: Jay Jay Okocha will participate in a 6 on 6 futsal match against a team of Maziya players. The Vice president of the Maldives Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef will play alongside the legend and winners of the Play Futsal with Jay Jay Okocha social media contest.
PSG Academy: Ooredoo is delighted to host 2 training sessions of PSG Academy in the Maldives for young footballers, with 2 PSG Academy Coaches from Qatar.
Okocha Joins Fun Run: Jay- Jay Okocha will also be traveling to Laamu Atoll to participate the Ooredoo Maldives Fun Run – Laamu Edition to be held on 5th July. The happiest run in the Maldives is an untimed 5km run with foam, color and obstacle stations for the participants enjoyment.
