Over 15 Traffic Accidents Per Day Reported in First 10 Days of Ramadan

Maldives Police Service (MPS) recorded 153 traffic accidents nationwide in the first 10 days of Ramadan, averaging about 15 daily incidents.
According to police data, officers documented 692 incidents and made 148 arrests nationwide during the period. Among the most frequently reported crimes was theft, with 147 cases recorded. Drug-related offences followed closely, with 110 cases reported. Additionally, authorities recorded 40 cases of assault, 48 incidents of vandalism, and 8 cases each of robbery and counterfeit or forgery.

Economic crimes, including embezzlement, accounted for 13 reported cases, while 19 incidents of domestic violence were documented. Police also recorded 38 cases of threats, 7 cybercrimes, and 70 scams. Reports of sexual offences stood at 15, while cases of child abuse were also reported at 19.
In a public statement, the Maldives Police urged citizens to support efforts to ensure public safety. “Let’s work together to keep our communities safe,” the statement read.
