Efforts to protect the most flood-prone regions began on Monday night, resulting in the placement of the sandbags within two days.
In addition to the council’s efforts, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has contributed by distributing 533 sandbags to 63 households in Malé. The Maldives Police Service, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and the MNDF have also launched a joint operation aimed at minimising damage from the anticipated flooding. This operation was initiated under the directive of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
During a press conference, Police Commissioner Ali Shujau confirmed that sandbags had already been placed in more than 56 houses severely affected by flooding earlier this month. He also assured that the service would be extended to other households upon request.
