Over 50 Marriages Scheduled to Take Place Today
The Family Court of the Maldives has reported that 52 marriages are scheduled to take place today, December 24, 2024.
Of these 52 marriages, 16 marriage ceremonies will take place during Court official hours, and 36 ceremonies will take place outside of official hours, according to the Family Court.
In response to an increasing number of people requesting marriage services over the weekend, the Court has also introduced new operating hours for the upcoming year, 2025. For the first time, the Court will remain open seven days a week to accommodate the growing demand.

The working hours for the upcoming year are as follows:
Official Days:
– 9:00 to 11:30 hours
– 13:00 to 13:30 hours
– 15:00 to 21:30 hours
Fridays:
– 15:00 to 21:30 hours
Saturdays:
– 10:00 to 21:30 hours
From January to October this year, the Family Court processed a total of 1,936 marriages and 1,154 divorces. October saw the highest number of marriage registrations for the year, with 205 marriages processed, alongside 148 divorce cases.

In 2002, the Maldives gained international attention for having the highest divorce rate in the world, with 10.97 divorces per 1,000 people—a record that continues to reflect the country’s ongoing trends in marriage and divorce rates across the Maldives.
