In a tweet, He emphasised the need for strict measures against individuals who make false accusations or engage in character assassination attempts involving minors as part of political disputes.
The recent controversy arose during a protest held by the main opposition party, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), in the Greater Malé area. On Thursday evening, some MDP supporters allegedly made derogatory remarks about the son of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, prompting widespread condemnation from various entities and individuals.

The MDP subsequently issued a statement addressing the government over the incident. Abdul Raheem has since called for decisive action against those responsible for spreading false statements and infringing upon the rights of children and minors for political purposes.
He further stressed that a mere statement of condemnation from the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) was insufficient and argued for the establishment of a mechanism to hold individuals accountable for such actions.

Both the ECM and the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) issued statements denouncing the remarks directed at the President’s son. In response, the MDP characterised the conclusions reached by these commissions as unprofessional, asserting that the statements made by the ECM and HRCM were baseless.
