PG Praise Police as Key Partners in Criminal Justice
Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has lauded the police as the most crucial partner of the Prosecutor General’s Office in the criminal justice system.
In a newsletter article shared by the Prosecutor General’s Office, Shameem highlighted the essential legal relationship between police and prosecutors.
Shameem described police as “the most fundamental service in the criminal justice system.”
Shameem noted that the Prosecutor General’s Office is legally mandated to oversee police investigations, provide recommendations, and take up cases that the police decide not to pursue. He referenced specific articles in the Police Act that outline these responsibilities, emphasising that the police are also required to act on written advice given by the Prosecutor General upon request.
The newsletter article, written in December last year, was shared by the official account of the PG office yesterday.
