The People’s National Congress (PNC) has released the provisional results of its internal elections, which were held to elect party officials across various posts.
In a statement issued on Monday evening, the PNC confirmed that the preliminary results aligned with the figures announced at the polling stations after the ballots were counted.
However, the party noted that the final results will be published once the official results sheets for the 143 ballot boxes from across the Maldives have been received at the PNC headquarters and any complaints related to the elections have been reviewed.
The PNC has also opened a period for submitting complaints concerning the preliminary results.
Following the announcement of the final results, the party will proceed with elections for various posts among the newly elected officials.
Polling for the internal elections took place on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. A total of 648 candidates contesting 1,984 positions. A number of 1,300 posts were filled unopposed, as they had only a single candidate.
Approximately 33,500 PNC members were eligible to vote in the elections.
