The People’s National Congress (PNC) won the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) election in Hdh. Kurinbee yesterday, claiming all three vacant seats.

The election was closely contested, with strong campaigning from both the ruling PNC and the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). Despite the efforts from both sides, the PNC candidates emerged victorious.

The successful PNC candidates and their respective votes were:

  • Fatimath Naafiza Ismail: 163 votes
  • Raniya Mohamed: 162 votes
  • Inaasa Adam: 161 votes

Two candidates from the MDP contested but were unsuccessful in securing a seat.

The campaign saw active participation from both political parties. Nine Members of Parliament from the PNC visited Kurinbee to canvass door-to-door, while the MDP also mobilised its members, including prominent figures, to support its candidates.

Zuna Abdul Matheen, a member of the Kurinbee Council, highlighted the significance of the contest, saying: “I don’t think this is a small election at all. Both parties were very excited.”
